How It Works

How vestibular rehab works

1

Find the cause

Your physiotherapist asks when the dizziness happens and checks your eye movements, balance, neck and how you respond to changes in head position.

2

Treat what is driving it

Depending on the cause, treatment may include repositioning techniques, eye and head movement exercises, neck treatment and balance training.

3

Build back confidence

Exercises progress as symptoms settle, so walking, driving, work and sport feel steady again. For concussion, activity returns gradually and is guided by your symptoms.

Common Questions

Vestibular rehabilitation questions, answered.

What is vestibular rehabilitation?

Vestibular rehabilitation is physiotherapy for dizziness, vertigo and balance problems that come from the inner ear and the vestibular system. It uses specific movements and exercises to reduce symptoms and improve balance.

Can physiotherapy help vertigo?

Physiotherapy can help many types of vertigo, especially vertigo that is triggered by changes in head position. Your physiotherapist assesses the cause first and explains whether vestibular treatment is a good fit.

Do you treat dizziness after a concussion?

Yes. Post-concussion rehabilitation is gradual and guided by your symptoms, and it may include vestibular and neck treatment, balance work and a graded return to activity.

Is vestibular physiotherapy covered by ICBC after a car accident?

If dizziness or a concussion follows a car accident, physiotherapy is part of ICBC's pre-approved care and we bill ICBC directly. Bring your claim number to your first visit.

Which clinics offer vestibular rehabilitation?

Both of our Richmond clinics: Vitality Seafair at 8900 No 1 Rd and Vitality Minoru at the Minoru Centre for Active Living.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed to book a physiotherapy assessment. If your dizziness is new, severe or comes with other symptoms such as weakness or changes in speech, seek medical care first.

Direct billing, so you pay less at the desk.

We bill ICBC, WorkSafeBC, MSP and most extended health plans directly, including Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life and Green Shield. Bring your policy details to your first visit and we handle the rest. How direct billing works
